Horse Racing Triple Crown 2015

Every year, the best thoroughbred racing horses try to win the Triple Crown.
There are three races spread throughout spring and the early summer.

For a horse to win the triple crown, it has to win all three races. It's one of the hardest things to achieve because of how close the races are to each other and because of the fact that all the horses are near the same skill level so the races are supposed to be evenly matched.
Because of this, it rarely happens and when it does, that horse becomes one of the biggest figures in sports.

This year, American Pharoah entered as the favorite and as the horse that could finally break the triple crown drought as no horse has done it since Affirmed in 1978. He's owned by Ahmed Zayat, trained by  Bob Baffert, and is ridden  by Victor Espinoza.
He went into the Kentucky Derby in May all hyped, but the world hadn't seen him run yet.

Then two weeks later in Maryland at the Preakness on a rainy day and muddy track, American Pharoah showed that nothing bothers him as he led wire to wire for the 2nd straight race. He inched one step closer to immortality and history.

Then, the race begins!
American Pharoah doesn't get a good start out of the gate because he stepped back before it opened (said by announcer on NBC).
He is able to make up for it and get to the lead where he stays for the rest of the longest race he ha ever done.
Frosted starts to make an attempt at getting closer,  but he never gets close enough to make a legitimate challenge.
American Pharoah ends up doing something that California Chrome failed to accomplish.

He wins the Belmont Stakes and therefore wins the Triple Crown becoming the 12th horse in history to achieve this feat.
As he crosses the finish line, jockey, trainer, and owner all exult in joy as they celebrate that their amazing horse has made history and ended the long drought of horses coming up short in the Belmont.

Mr. Zayat then receive the trophies for his horse winning the Belmont and the Triple Crown.

Now, this horse will go down as one of the best ever and I hope you bet some money on him throughout these three races.

I really enjoyed watching American Pharoah dominate his competition on the way to winning the Triple Crown and I'm excited at who will arise as favorites next spring. I'm also wondering if we can go two straight years with a Triple Crown winner.
We'll find out these answers next spring.
